Avowed is all about exploring and combating multiple challenging enemies. The world is incredibly beautiful, but like most games, it does have its flaws that become more noticeable the more you interact with the game. This is where additions such as mods can make a dramatic enhancement to gameplay, even if each change seems rather minuscule at first.
Modding has been a consistent way to allow users to “fix” issues that they have with different games, and in this case Avowed is very similar as it has things which it could definitely improve on. By using sites such as Curse Forge or the community made Vortex download manager, it has made getting mods even easier. But while there are clear issues in Avowed, that doesn't mean it's not a great game, just additions to help the user experience.
Better Attributes - Improving The Stats Of The Game
Made By Caites
This is a wonderful mod known as the Better Attributes, made by Caites, which does wonderful things to enhance gameplay. The core of the mod improves the bonuses received by each base attribute, Might, Dexterity, Constitution, Perception, Resolve, and Intellect. It gives each a new feel and makes it affect gameplay in a much more noticeable way, which is great for players who look for reactivity to stat changes.
The above link, and all subsequent outgoing links to the mods listed, will take you to Nexus Mods, where the mods are hosted and can be downloaded from.
Better Attributes comes with a potential side mod known as More Attributes, which grants additional attribute points to the player for each level. This is extremely helpful, especially for those who want to see a sharper increase in power per level to truly embrace the potential power fantasy of the game. There are also options to take this mod in bigger increments, such as 2x, 3x, or even 5x points per level.
Optimized Tweaks AVD - Improving Base Game Performance
Made by VynnGfx
Optimized Tweaks AVD by VynnGfx is a mod that focuses on improving the game's general performance, which is always great for players. This mod aims to reduce the latency and stutter inside the game by changing certain Unreal Engine variables that the original creators of Avowed left in their default states.
While this mod is great for general performance enhancement, it's good to note that it won't fix all issues. But for lower-spec players who are looking for a workaround for stuttering and bad FPS, this is an excellent potential fix. The mod author does note that this shouldn't be used in conjunction with other performance mods, so if multiple are considered, it's best to try them and use what works best for the situation.
Better Companions - Enhance/Alter Companions Combat Capability
Made by Caites
The Better Companions mod, also from Caites, focuses on improving the power and combat capability of companions in Avowed. The two main versions of the mod increase both the health and damage of the companions, while also decreasing their cooldowns. This is extremely helpful as the companions can usually feel quite underwhelming in the base game, which is quite unfortunate.

Each companion in Avowed has four unique abilities you can build around, but you won't be able to fully upgrade them. Here are the best ones to take.
There's also a version of the mod known as the rebalanced version, which aims to change the companions' stats to fit more into the characters' respective personalities. Unlike the prior versions of the mod, these buff and nerf characters in certain aspects to fit more into their canonical role, which is great for players who wish to get immersed in the environment and their allies.
Critikal Reshade - Reshading Base Game For Visual Quality
By CritikalCharly
A mod that does wonders to improve the game visually is the mod known as Critikal Reshade by Critikal. This mod changes the game's shaders to give them a more natural and colorful look that may be much more visually appealing to players. For players who are looking for a more visually pleasing experience, this is most likely one of the best mods.
This mod can potentially cause performance issues, so it's best to pair it with a performance-enhancing mod, such as Optimized Tweaks AVD listed above or similar mods for Avowed.
This mod also comes paired with a potential side mod that's similar to the main mod, which can fix the issue of the eye adaption filter not adapting to darker zones. While this is a small change that most players won't notice, it's definitely a potentially nice addition, especially for players who plan to take pictures of their gameplay or do multiple playthroughs of Avowed.
Character Creation Menu - Changing More After Initial Creation
By Yakuzadeso
The Character Creation Menu mod by Yakuzadeso is an amazing mod which allows the player to simply change any aspect of their character in Avowed's character creation menu at any point during gameplay. This includes gender, attributes, character's looks, and even more.
This mod is great for players who always second guess their character's appearance or potentially want to swap up their builds in the middle of gameplay and want to swap certain aspects to match that. It's also great for role-playing purposes because it allows players to adapt their appearance as their journey goes due to their armor/ the state of the world.
Clean Combat HUD - Changes To Base Game HUD
Made By Dreams897
This mod by Dreams897 is known as the Clean Combat HUD mod, which allows the user to alter their crosshair. There are three specific versions of the mod which allow you to change your crosshair in distinct ways, including vanilla, smaller aim, and the option to have no crosshair at all.
The mod page also comes with an additional mod that allows users to remove damage indicators.
The first one is the vanilla version, which keeps the original crosshair but removes the outer reticles. The smaller aim versions also remove the outer reticles, but introduce a sharper and smaller crosshair that's better for aiming in general. The last version, as stated, completely removes the crosshair, which is perfect for people who use shields, as the crosshair typically can feel like it's in the way while using them.
Descriptive Foods - Changing Food To Descriptions
Made By Kevikev
This mod by Kevikev is known as the Descriptive Foods mod, which has one key feature, which is changing every food name to a description of what it will give the player upon consuming it. This includes health values, max essence, even ability values if that is what the food would normally give. It now shows that instead of the name of the food.
This mod, while extremely helpful, can be completely immersion-breaking for new players, so it's possibly best to use this mod on a second playthrough. But if players wish to know everything about a food item before consuming it without having to check it, then this is easily the ideal mod for such players.
Better Ingredients - More Resource Gain
Made By Caites
Caites' Better Ingredients mod simply increases the amount of ingredients gained from most sources, including loot from bodies or containers around the world. This mod also has optional increases for general ground loot such as food, throwables, and even Paradisan Ladders. There's also an optional mod to increase Adra gain (though the mod author has suggested this could cause issues).
This mod is amazing for general gameplay, especially if players find that their loot gain was rather low, as it increases it immensely. The mod pages have variants of the mod such as 2–4x gain or 3–9x gain, meaning players can get an incredible amount of loot in a short timeframe.
Faster Day-Night Cycle - Decreases Time Between Day & Night
By Rmk1234
A simple but rather remarkable mod is the Faster Day-Night Cycle mod by Rmk1234. This mod simply speeds up the time between night and day by configuring the values, which is impressive for general gameplay and people who want to experience different times of the day more often.
This mod comes in multiple variants of differing speeds, including 1.5x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, and 10x speeds, which allows you to test which speed works best for your situation. It shouldn't break player immersion either, as the speed-up, while noticeable, isn't anything drastic that players would have noticeable issues with, and if they do, they can select lower speeds. The mod author also gives tips on how to customize it, which is quite helpful.
Better Carry Weight and Encumbrance - Improving Carry Weight
Made by Caites
This mod created by Caites is known as the Better Carry Weight and Encumbrance mod, which has two main functions. The first function of the mod is to increase the general carry weight size, which comes in variants of 2x or 100x, which is great if you don't want to manage your inventory as much or at all.
An additional mod that players can select is to change how encumbrance affects the player. The two variants of the mod include one that removes all restrictions on walking or jogging, while the second one is more immersive and allows players to slow sprint. Both are great, especially if the player wishes to keep their original carry weight but wishes to get rid of the annoying drawbacks of encumbrance in Avowed.
